MEND (Meeting Emergency Needs With Dignity)

MEND MISSION STATEMENT

An interfaith organization meeting the emergency needs of the disadvantaged of Essex County, working to support and facilitate their growth as self-sufficient individuals; assisting them in obtaining benefits to which they are entitled; and advocating for policies that will improve the quality of life for those we serve.

In 2009, over 66,000 needy individuals in the Essex County area turned to the 16 MEND (Meeting Emergency Needs with Dignity) emergency food centers for assistance. MEND, an interfaith anti-hunger network in Essex County, NJ, has been providing emergency food to individuals and families in crisis for over 30 years. Our 16 pantries serve those struck by fire, theft, unemployment, illness and other crisis. While assistance is provided to individuals and families, the majority of the clients are young children (40 % of the total population served).
