Mississippi Public Broadcasting

Overview

The Mississippi Authority for Educational Television (MAET) signed on the air with its first television broadcast on February 1, 1970, and quickly became a leader in the use of television for distance learning. MAET began airing radio programming in 1984. During Fiscal Year 2005 as part of an overall strategic plan to streamline services and enhance promotion of our services, MAET continued to do business under the name of Mississippi Public Broadcasting (MPB) .

Our Mission

The Foundation for Public Broadcasting (FPB) is a non-profit, 501c(3) corporation chartered in the State of Mississippi. FPB has a ninemember Board of Directors which includes the Executive Director of MAET. It is a fundraising organization, operated through the Development Division of MAET. Its mission is to raise supplemental funding for MAET in the form of: (1) individual contributions; (2) corporate support; (3) major and planned giving; (4) grants, and (5) other marketing strategies (like sale of promotional items, home video sales, etc.) , as authorized by MAET' s Executive Director.

FPS/Development staff works with MAET and MEB staffs to promote awareness of ETV, PRM and RRSM through special events and projects. FPB strives to position private financial support of public broadcasting as a partnership with the long-standing support of the legislative appropriation for educational broadcasting in Mississippi.
