Our Philosophy

We believe that by looking at "the bigger picture" and responsibly managing and connecting resources, our community will be able to sustain itself without relying heavily on outside grants and donations. Each of OFl's projects seeks to fold these resources together to improve the quality of life on Ocracoke. We want to help Ocracoke meet challenges by building on local assets - people, heritage, land and water -to create a sustainable community.

Sustainability is defined as: a practice that sustains a given condition, such as economic
growth or a human population, without destroying or depleting naturalresources,polluting the environment, etc.
