CARS is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) assisting non-profit organizations across the USA the ability to accept vehicle donations as a revenue stream. The CARS exclusive web-based vehicle donation program provides non-profit organizations the ability to accept vehicle donations without having to manage the program in-house. In addition, CARS exclusive web-based vehicle donation program provides the non-profit organizations the transparency that they require and the security that the organizations and donors demand. We continue to provide the best customer service in the industry and our reputation is unmatched.
As part of the donation process, CARS collects Tax Identification Numbers and other information from donors in order for a donor to receive tax documentation of their donation.

CARS is the sole owner of the information collected on this site. We only have access to/collect information that a donor has voluntarily provided to us via email or other direct contact. We will not sell or rent this information to anyone.
We will use the information to respond to donor inquiries or process a donation. We will not share personal information with any third party outside of our organization, other than as necessary to fulfill a donation request, e.g. process a donation.
When a donor inquires about a request to make a vehicle donation using our Services, we generally are required to collect the donor name, postal address, telephone number, email address, tax identification number (if the vehicle sold for over $500) and to send this information along with a donation to the recipient of the donation. (The specific information we collect will vary depending on the laws of that state). If a donated vehicle sells for over $500, we will also send IRS Form 1098-C to the donor. The Form 1098-C must be furnished to the donor within 30 days of the gift, or within 30 days after the sale of the donated vehicle.
CARS will collect the name, address, federal tax ID number, IRS Determination Letter and bank account information for all non-profit organizations that have partnered with CARS. In all cases, we also may ask for further information to manage risk and verify your identity and information.
CARS will collect information volunteered by visitors and contributors using our Services and recipients receiving contributions, by completing and submitting our online forms or emailing us. When visitors, contributors or recipients visit our web sites or complete online forms, our servers automatically collect certain information that their web browser sends when visiting web sites in general. We may connect this information with your identity to determine your potential interests in our products and services. We may also use this information to improve our security measures. This log file information may include the URLs (domain names) you visited; your Internet Protocol (IP) address; date, time, and time spent on pages visited; and information about your browser and computer. We do not link these data to your identity.
From time to time, our Services may use the standard cookies feature of major browser applications which allows us to store a small piece of data on your computer about your use of our Services. CARS is committed to protecting the security of personal data. When you submit sensitive information via the website, your information is protected both online and offline.
We may collect sensitive information (such as credit card data or tax identification numbers), that information is encrypted and transmitted to us in a secure way. You can verify this by looking for a closed lock icon at the bottom of your web browser, or looking for "https" at the beginning of the address of the web page.
CARS uses encryption programming to protect sensitive information transmitted online, we also protect your information offline. Only CARS employees who need the information to perform a specific job (for example; customer service or accounting) are granted access to personally identifiable information. The information is encrypted once it is entered into the database and cannot be viewed in entirety until it is printed on the IRS Form 1098-C that is mailed to the donor. The computers/servers in which we store personally identifiable information are kept in a secure environment.
While no security measure can guarantee against compromise, we use a variety of security technologies and procedures to help protect data from unauthorized access, use, or disclosure. CARS is required to keep all tax identification numbers on file within the CARS 256 bit AES encrypted database for three (3) years from the date of the donation. After three (3) years from the date of the donation, the tax identification number is purged and reduced to the last four digits.
We follow generally accepted standards to protect the personal information submitted to us, both during transmission and once we receive it. No method of transmission over the Internet, or method of electronic storage, is 100% secure. Therefore, we cannot guarantee its absolute security. However, we have never had an identity or pertinent information compromised.
CARS performs hourly and daily database backups to ensure that our website can be restored in case of a disaster. These backups are stored offsite at a secure facility utilizing industry standard 256 bit AES encryption.
CARS utilizes an industry standard anti-virus program on all of our web and database servers with industry standard firewall to protect the network perimeter and only open the necessary network ports that are required to perform daily business operations.
Our website and Landing Sites are hosted in a secure facility that meets and exceeds industry standards for security, battery backup and fire suppression.
Contributors using our Services and recipients receiving contributions must be of legal age to form a contract. Thus, we do not knowingly solicit or collect personally identifying information from children under the age of 13.
CARS uses personally identifiable information and aggregate information we collect to market and provide the Services to you, including processing donations, sending notices about donations, and processing donation payments to recipients, to collect fees and resolve disputes and the like, to manage risk and verify identity and information with third parties such as credit reporting agencies, to improve our offerings and to create new offerings. We may use your phone number or email address to reach you should further verification of your identity or credit/debit card or bank account information be required.
We do not use personally identifiable information to send commercial or marketing messages to you (such as offers regarding Services or potential contribution opportunities) without your consent or opt-in. We may send you certain service and administrative notices, which are not subject to opt-out.

We share contributors’ information with recipients as required by law. The specific information we share will vary depending on the law that applies to the recipient. Recipients may also be required to include this information in their public reports.
CARS may share such information if we in good faith believe that such action is necessary to: (a) comply with any law, regulation or order, such as campaign finance or public disclosure law, subpoena, court order or search warrant; (b) provide the Services using our affiliates or subcontractors; (c) protect and defend our rights or property, including investigations and defense of third-party claims; (d) otherwise ensure compliance with our contributor and/or recipient terms and conditions, rules and policies; and/or (e) prevent physical harm or financial loss and report suspected illegal activity. Aggregate information, such as log file information, may be shared with others only on an anonymous aggregate basis.
